With thousands of attendees and hundreds of speakers, GHC is a major event that requires a lot of hard work to set up and run. That’s why we’re so grateful to the thousands of volunteers who help make GHC such a success year after year.
Help make GHC 17 an enthralling and unforgettable event! Find the volunteering opportunity that works best for you.
Please note that you must already be registered for GHC 17 in order to sign up as an onsite volunteer. Those who are blogging or taking notes for sessions that are being streamed online do not need to register.
Open Source Day
Each year AnitaB.org hosts a day long codeathon for Humanity with other organizations. This program, known as Open Source Day (OSD), gives GHC attendees the chance to learn about open source while working on projects designed to solve real world problems. As a mentor, you will work with one of our participating organizations to guide participants as they develop their solutions. Learn more about Open Source Day.
In addition to being a registered GHC attendee, mentors must review preparation materials and be available for correspondence from the OSD committee and project leaders leading up to GHC.
GHC offers three dedicated chances for our younger attendees to seek advice from mentors. Known as Speed Mentoring, our volunteer mentors discuss career paths, graduate schools, and personal aspirations with attendees in 10-minute focused conversations. All sessions will be on Thursday, October 5, 2017.
Want to meet our GHC 17 Scholar recipients? Ready to directly impact the lives of the next generation of women technologists? Become a GHC Scholar Mentor! During the Scholars Networking Reception, our student scholars will interact with mentors from academia, industry, and government. As a closed event, this is a perfect opportunity to have direct contact with students.
The Scholars Networking Reception is Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 4:30 p.m. — 7 p.m.
ACM Student Research Competition Judge
Student research is essential to the growth of technology. As part of GHC’s Poster Session, ACM sponsors a student research competition. Students present their posters at the General Poster Session Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Our volunteer judges select three finalists for both undergraduate and graduate research. These finalists will present their research in formal slide presentations the next day for final ranking.
Judges evaluate students on:
- Clarity of visual and oral presentation
- Significance of work
We are seeking judges for either phase of the competition (poster presentation and formal slide presentation). The only requirement is that you must already be registered for GHC and have a Ph.D degree or higher. What are you waiting for?
GHC is a conference for the community by the community. At AnitaB.org, we rely on the passion of our dedicated volunteers to make the conference a success. Their voices help shape the conversations both at the venues and around the world. Their contributions help those who can’t attend in person experience GHC from home. Notes are often used years later to remember specific topics and discussions. If you want to be a part of sharing the knowledge gained at GHC, volunteer to be an official GHC community blogger or note taker.
Congratulations on being a GHC 17 Hopper! We are excited to work alongside you to make this year’s conference a success. Learn more about your training and assigned tasks.
