This year, AnitaB.org is thrilled to be offering two additional opportunities for women of color from underrepresented groups and women from untapped pathways to attend the 2019 Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC 19):

  • GHC 19 Women in Technology Untapped Pathways Grant

GHC 19 Women of Color in Technology Complimentary Registration

GHC 19 Women of Color in Technology Complimentary Registration includes:

  • Individual Registration for the three-day Celebration. Individual must be able to pay for out-of-pocket expenses associated with attending the event, which includes hotel, travel (flight, train, bus, taxi, etc.), meals, and any additional costs associated with your trip.

Eligibility

  • Must identify as any of the following underrepresented groups: African American, Black, Native American, Alaska Native, Latina, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander.
  • Must be able to pay for out-of-pocket expenses associated with attending the event (e.g.; transportation to and from GHC, meals outside of GHC, hotel, etc.)
  • Must be one of the following:
    • Transitioning between jobs.
    • Faculty or staff in K-12 or higher education institution.
    • Student (if under 18, must be accompanied by a chaperone).
    • Government employee.
    • Staff working for a nonprofit.
    • Individual working in a startup company (for the purpose of this application, a startup is defined as a company that has been running for no more than five (5) years regardless of how many employees).
  • Must not be working for a for-profit or startup that has been running for more than five (5) years.

What we are looking for in a GHC Registration Recipient?

  • Applicants who can demonstrate how their past and/or current work or life experiences have shaped their desire to enter tech.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate how attending GHC will have a positive impact on their career trajectories in tech and/or their communities.

Note: If you receive a complimentary registration and do not notify AnitaB.org that you cannot attend the Celebration, you will not be eligible in future years as this takes an opportunity away from another individual that could have attended.

GHC 19 Women in Technology Untapped Pathways Grant

Meet the 2019 Committee!

The GHC 19 Women in Technology Untapped Pathways Grant will include the following:

  • Individual Registration for the three-day Celebration.
  • Hotel accommodations (arranged by AnitaB.org).
  • Transportation.
  • Travel stipend (if used wisely, stipend is expected to cover transportation costs to and from the airport, baggage fees, meals, and other travel incidentals).
    • We will provide the stipend when you pick up your badge at GHC. Awardees pay upfront for travel day meals and taxis/shuttles to the GHC venue.

Eligibility

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by October 2, 2019.
  • Must demonstrate a desire to work in tech.
  • Must be able to attend all 3 days of the event.
  • Must reside in the United States or United States territories.
  • Must show proof of one of the following:
    • A completed degree from a 4-year Minority Serving Institution (MSI). To find out if your school is a MSI, click here.
    • A completed degree from a 2-year college.
    • A completed certificate from an alternative tech program (e.g., coding bootcamp or other accelerated coding program).
    • Being currently enrolled in an alternative tech program.
  • Cannot accept more than one award to attend GHC.
  • Must not be working for a for-profit.
  • Must not be a current student or faculty.

What we are looking for in a Grant Recipient?

FAQ

Can I transfer my award to someone else?

No, neither award is transferable. If you are unable to attend, you must notify OrgTransformation@AnitaB.org.

Can I use my award for another year?

No, the award can only be used for GHC 19 regardless of the circumstance.

I identify as a transgender woman. Am I eligible to apply if I meet the other criteria?

Absolutely!

I am a woman of color, but do not identify as any of the racial/ethnic groups listed. Can I still apply for the complimentary registration?

No. For the purpose of these awards, only the groups listed may apply.

Can I apply for an award if I applied to be a GHC speaker?

Yes, those who applied to be a GHC speaker can also apply for an award.

How do I find out if my school is a Minority Serving Institution (MSI)?

Please view this website to determine if your school is a designated MSI.

If I received a scholarship to attend GHC before, am I still eligible to apply?

Yes, having received a scholarship in a prior year does not disqualify you from applying.

I work for a for-profit and am also a student part-time. Can I apply for the GHC 19 Women of Color in Technology Complimentary Registration?

No. If you work for a for-profit, then you do not qualify for either award regardless of what other positions you may hold.

I am an intern at a for-profit. Does this exclude me from applying?

If you are an intern, you are eligible to apply.
