Shakeia Kegler

Shakeia was born in Saint Petersburg Florida and is the oldest of six girls and one boy. She graduated with honors from Gibbs High School in 2011 and enlisted active duty in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman.

While enlisted, she gained experience in purchasing, compliance, and quality assurance, also earning her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Lean Six Sigma Certifications. She was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her exemplary performance managing and purchasing tools, parts, and materials.

After receiving an honorable discharge, Shakeia worked as a compliance and contract specialist in the government contracting department of a pharmaceutical company. While working she participated in a local accelerator provided by Broward College and CareerSource Broward called Start Up Now. Start Up Now Accelerator allowed her to leverage her experience in both roles and led to her founding GovLia in 2017.

Since launching GovLia, she has won first place at the 2018 PitcHER competition, Vetprenuer competition, and PS27’s competition. She has also participated in Y-Combinator Startup School, Black Tech Week VC in Residence Program, CIC Military Cohort, and The Venture Mentoring Team mentee program.

Shakeia is passionate about creating opportunities for individuals and business owners to grow, overcome economic hardships, and surpass barriers to success using technology.
