About the Anita Borg Fellowship Program
In 1987, Anita Borg began building what would become AnitaB.org when she and 12 fellow women in tech launched Systers, one of the first online communities created specifically for women in technology.
At a time when women were often isolated in their roles, Anita envisioned something radical: a place where women could connect, share knowledge, support one another, and collectively shape a more inclusive tech industry.
Nearly four decades later, that vision lives on.
The Anita Borg Fellowship Program honors Anita’s legacy by expanding access to the AnitaB.org community and its most impactful programs, ensuring that women in tech, regardless of career stage or financial barriers, can fully participate in the opportunities that help them move forward.
Why this Fellowship Matters
Periods of disruption often create distance; distance from opportunity, from community, and from the support that sustains careers.
With over 150,000 tech jobs cut in 2025 and thousands of nonprofit roles eliminated, many in our community are navigating uncertainty at the very moment when connection matters most.
The Anita Borg Fellowship Program exists to ensure that financial barriers do not determine who gets to stay connected, visible, and supported in tech.
