Graduate Student, Montana State University
Olivia Firth is a Master’s student in computer science at Montana State University. After completing her undergraduate degree in mathematics, she found a passion for education and working with students. She was able to combine her interests in education and mathematics/computer science by joining the Storytelling project in 2019. This research project integrates Indian Education for All Essential Understandings into computer science lesson plans through the lens of storytelling. Beyond her Master’s requirements, Olivia is part of the College Teaching Certificate program at MSU which allows her to further pursue an understanding of education fundamentals and research. Olivia is also interested in studying how we teach ethics to CS students, as well as the ethical implications of improving diversity within STEM, a field, which has become deeply enmeshed in our socio-political systems. Outside of school, Olivia enjoys climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and baking.
