Carnegie Mellon University
Shruti Rijhwani is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research is centered around using machine learning models for natural language processing (NLP) and is particularly focused on NLP for languages with limited resources, that are underrepresented in modern language technologies. Her Ph.D. dissertation addresses the task of digitizing documents that contain endangered language texts, for which she works with documentary linguists and endangered language communities to develop NLP systems that are useful in practice. She was awarded the Bloomberg Data Science Ph.D. Fellowship to support her research. At CMU, she has also worked on NLP methods that improve named entity recognition and entity linking for low-resourced languages. Before CMU, Shruti was a Research Fellow at Microsoft Research, where she developed machine learning models for processing code-switched (multilingual) text.
