Constance Steinkuehler

Professor of Informatics, University of California, Irvine

Constance Steinkuehler is a Professor of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine, where she researches the cognitive, intellectual, and social aspects of e-sports and multiplayer online video games. Current projects include e-sports analytics and survey research, methods for assessing online social interaction, design and evaluation of an academically enriched high school e-sports league and complementary high school curriculum in STEM and English Language Arts, games for second language acquisition, and a book for parents of gamer kids.

Constance formerly served as Senior Policy Analyst under the Obama administration, advising on games and digital media. She is the Founder and former President of the Higher Education Video Games Alliance, an academic organization of game-related programs in higher education. Constance has a doctorate degree in Literacy Studies, a master’s degree in Educational Psychology, and three bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics, English, and Religious Studies. She lives in Southern California with her husband and two children.
