Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Isabel Orlanes Gallegos is an undergraduate student at Stanford University, where she is pursuing her B.S. in Computer Science. She currently conducts research in the Stanford Laboratory of Quantitative Imaging and Artificial Intelligence, where she develops machine learning models to predict disease diagnoses. She has worked as a software engineering intern at Apple and Microsoft, and her research career started at Sandia National Laboratories, where she used machine learning to analyze hyperspectral x-ray computed tomography (H-CT) data. From these projects, Isabel has one patent and one patent pending with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and two publications on which she is first author, in addition to receiving national recognition for her work. After completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in computer science.
