Rian Walker

Information Security Consultant, Bank of America, Co-Founder of Last Mile Education Fund

Rian Walker is an Information Security Consultant in the Enterprise Governance and Remediation group at Bank of America. In her current role, she is focused on increasing the team’s efficiency through various automation projects to decrease the manual effort required to maintain the team’s many responsibilities. Previously, she has held roles in data loss prevention and data quality assurance. Rian’s journey to Bank of America began when she interviewed for a summer internship at the 2015 Grace Hopper Conference. She completed two internships in the summers of 2016 and 2017 before joining the bank full-time in 2018.

Rian’s path to college graduation was complicated. As a first-generation, low-income student, she struggled to overcome access barriers and financial obstacles over the five years she attended university. Ruthe Farmer and Dr. Sarah Lee, both mentors to Rian, were dedicated to her success and supported her through her journey. Realizing she was not the only student facing the choice between financial stability and college education, Rian, Ruthe, and Sarah founded the Last Mile Education Fund non-profit organization in 2019. Last Mile provides support for women studying computer science that are experiencing financial crises and are at risk of not obtaining their degree.

Rian graduated from Mississippi State University in 2018 with a degree in Software Engineering and is currently studying for her Masters in Information Technology at Virginia Tech. She is located in Charlotte, NC.
