Minderoo Research Professor, NYU and Faculty Director of the AI Now Institute

Meredith Whittaker is the Minderoo Research Professor at NYU and the Faculty Director of the AI Now Institute. Her work engages the social implications of “AI”, with a focus on the political economy driving tech’s production and use. Before AI Now she worked at Google for over a decade, where she founded Google’s Open Research Group and co-founded M-Lab, the world’s largest source of open data on internet performance. She also helped lead labor organizing at Google, and worked to catalyze a broader labor movement across tech. Currently she’s Senior Advisor on AI to the Chair at the FTC, and has consulted with many other governments and government agencies on AI and tech policy.
