First blog post!

#GHC2016 here I come! I’m new to the blogging world, but not new to the Grace Hopper Celebration. Last year was my first time attending GHC – the world’s largest conference for women in technology! And I not only had the pleasure of listening to some incredible talks, but met amazing women and came into some opportunities that I had never even dreamed of.

Just a little over two and a half years ago, I had no idea what computer science even was.  I was almost halfway through college and had no vision for my future.  My dad then suggested that I take a computer science course, but honestly who even listens to their parents at that age? Well, apparently me because I decided to take it.. and it was the best decision of my life.

Now, you would hope that once I made the decision to pursue computer science as my second major that I would at least have an idea of what GHC was, right? But no, I still had absolutely no idea what it was – I just knew I had to go! And honestly, I am so glad that I did.  As cheesy as it sounds, the conference opened up a world of opportunity and inspiration. And it speaks volumes to the importance of educating girls on the field of technology. The mission of the Grace Hopper Celebration is not only to educate women on our opportunities in the field, but also encourage and empower them as well! GHC has had such an incredible impact on bridging the gap for women in tech and I can’t wait to see what GHC16 has to offer this year!
