Packing Tips for GHC

Packing Tips for GHC

Last year’s GHC saw 12,000 attendees from all over the world gathering in Houston to exchange ideas and learn from one another. While the celebration is absolutely incredible, the toughest part might be packing for the trip.

Bring Extra Business Cards

For the career fair, it’s essential that you remember to pack plenty of business cards, copies of your resume, or another way for employers to contact you after the conference. Business cards are also a great option if you meet someone interesting during a talk or in the halls between events. Being able to easily share your contact information maximizes your networking opportunities and saves everyone from having to pull out their phone the entire time.

Pack Plenty of Snacks

While there will be food in the convention center, it’s a good idea to plan to buy snacks before the conference begins. With 15,000 attendees expected this year, lines at the food stands can get long, and the last thing you want is to be listening to an important speaker and thinking about your next meal. Also, bring a reusable water bottle. Staying hydrated, especially in Houston’s hot weather, is vital.

Ditch the Heels and Lace Up Your Sneakers

The George R. Brown Convention Center is enormous (again, we’re expecting 15,000 attendees!), so you will be doing a lot of walking and standing. Skip the cute heels and pack comfortable shoes. We cannot emphasize this enough. GHC lasts three days, and you don’t want your feet mad at you after the first few hours.

Leave Room for SWAG

With all this talk about what you need to pack, here’s what you shouldn’t pack: TOO MUCH. There is so much fun swag to collect–bags, charger cords, water bottles, and free t-shirts galore. Leave some room in your suitcase for all the fun stuff you’ll be bringing home.
