Shanti Thiyagaraja is currently working towards a PhD degree in computer science at the University of North Texas, Denton. Her research area involves vital signs monitoring using mobile phones. It focuses on measuring the vital signs of an individual using mobile phone’s sensors, with appropriate signal processing on the collected signals to estimate heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and body temperature.
“I enjoy coding. It amazes me what a program can do when it’s well written. My research work is in developing mobile healthcare applications. When I see the product of my work, it motivates me to do more and better programming.”
