Another exciting featured session has been added to our GHC 19 agenda! This session, entitled “Considerations of Emerging Technology for Policy and Citizenry,” will bring together executives from leading tech companies. Panelists will discuss privacy and trust related issues which should be top of mind to policymakers and subject matter experts as emerging technologies evolve. They will furthermore discuss the vital role women technologists play in shaping the future of these technologies and the policy that regulates them.
The session will provide an informed point of view on emerging tech to watch from a privacy and innovation perspective. From blockchain to machine learning, considerations of data privacy, data access, data use, and trust are common threads. This is intended as a premier learning opportunity for our invited Congressional Delegation.

Kumar Garg – Moderator
Kumar is the Senior Director for Technology and Society at Schmidt Futures. His portfolio includes four core areas of work: promoting the positive digital transformation of society by investing in data collaboratives that address concrete societal problems; expanding the number of people that are involved in discovery and innovation; investing in early stage risk-capital in nascent university research, high-potential people, and young organizations; and advancing public policy that sustains and leverages science and technology.

Marie Wieck – Panelist
In her more than 25 years with IBM, Marie has held a variety of technical and executive roles in IBM’s hardware, software, and services units. She is passionate about innovation from diverse teams and driving business impact from new technologies. In January 2017, Marie was named into her current position as General Manager of Blockchain, which is poised to transform business processes and transactions.

Tal Niv – Panelist
Tal is the Vice President of Legal & Policy at GitHub, the world’s largest software development platform. In her capacity at GitHub, Tal manages global legal initiatives, as the company continues to expand worldwide, in addition to leading policy initiatives to promote balanced rules and regulations that contribute to innovation. Before joining GitHub in 2013, Tal was an adjunct professor of Intellectual Property and Patent Law at University of Santa Clara and Tel Aviv University, respectively.

Erin MacLeod – Panelist
Erin is a Senior Director at Ancestry, the global leader in family history and consumer genomics, where she leads a team of lawyers supporting Product and advises on privacy and regulatory matters, product development, commercial transactions, and intellectual property. Previously, she was a Director of Legal at Wind River, an embedded software company, while it was wholly-owned by Intel, leading Wind River’s legal compliance and program and supporting Finance and other G&A teams.
