Volunteer as an OSD Mentor

Volunteer as an OSD Mentor

The Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) is a wonderful opportunity to further your career path, increase your network to network, and gain valuable resources and information. But it’s also a great opportunity to give back to the tech community. By becoming a GHC volunteer, you have the chance to support and inspire other women in computing in various ways.

One way you can support our attendees is by becoming a mentor for Open Source Day (OSD). This day long codeathon lets participants use open source software (OSS) to develop humanitarian projects and improve the world we live in.

As an OSD Mentor, you will work with one of our eight participating organizations on a unique project. You will guide your group members and help them create a working prototype of their open source project. Check out this year’s participating organizations and projects here.

OSD participants come from all skill levels and backgrounds, with some having little to no experience with OSS at all. This is a great opportunity for you to help them learn new skills and increase their confidence. You’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing you helped contribute to a worthwhile project which will solve real world problems.

There are plenty of other volunteer opportunities at GHC as well, including speed mentoring, mentoring GHC scholars, judging posters for the ACM Student Research Competition, and blogging or note taking. Click here to learn more about these opportunities.

Please note that you must already be registered for GHC 17 in order to sign up as an onsite volunteer. Those who are blogging or taking notes for sessions that are being streamed online do not need to register.

So what are you waiting for? Become a GHC 17 volunteer and support the GHC community!
