We know how hectic life can be for parents, especially when attending a big conference like the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). That’s why we offer free on-site child care at GHC for kids 13 years and younger. While the kids have fun doing various activities, parents can go and enjoy everything the celebration has to offer.
« I can’t tell you how thrilled I was when I saw that Grace Hopper had this child care option, » Aarthi Mohan, a project manager at Expedia Inc., told Silicon Angle while attending last year’s GHC. She brought her son and daughter to the celebration, hoping the event would make as much as an impact on them as it would her.
« I want [my kids] to see that you can have it all and you don’t have to compromise anything, » she explained. « I want to be that inspiration for [my daughter] and I want my son to see the kind of woman he should really look forward to in the future. »
GHC was one of the first tech conferences to offer child care, a service too many conferences still lack. Women often do not attend professional conferences because they cannot afford or cannot find a babysitter to watch their children for such a long period of time.
« For people like me, if there were no child care services, I’d have to pass up this opportunity and I’d probably be at home right now very upset, » Octavia Howell told Silicon Angle. Octavia, who is the corporate vice president of network security operations at New York Life Insurance Co., was able to bring her then-11-week-old daughter to last year’s GHC.

This is the first tech conference I’ve ever attended where childcare is available. Seriously cool! Just saying … #GHC15 #OurTimeToLead

@ghc One of the nicest surprises at GHC 2015! An empowering message about what professional women should expect and demand in the workplace.
