Ange Cynthia Umuhire is a PhD candidate in Astronomy and space sciences at the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology (UR-CST). She holds a Master of Sciences in Physics with a specialization in space sciences. Through a Worldwide competition, Mrs. Cynthia was selected to be trained at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA-GSFC) in Heliophysics Science Division under the Committee of Solar Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) scholarship.

She attended and represented space research at plenary level in different countries of Africa, Europe, USA, and Canada. She is among the winners of 2022 L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science sub-Saharan Africa Young Talents Awards. Mrs. Cynthia was among 40 African women scientists selected for the first cohort of MAWAZO fellowship which aims to transform lives in Africa through research.

She was also a space science analyst at the newly established Rwanda Space Agency (RSA) where she represented the country in different local and international conferences. At the RSA, she successfully led projects such as the Intelsat Space STEM program in collaboration with MaxIQ space, ISONscope (partnership between Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and Global Satellite Tracking Initiative among many others.

Mrs. Cynthia is a member of different women organizations including the Rwandan Association for Women in Science and Engineering (RAWISE) and the Organization for Women In Science for Developing World (OWSD).
