Journey to GHC 2014

And so the adventure begins!

I’ve spent many years listening to friends, peers and mentors talk about, and encourage  going to the Grace Hopper Celebration.  I have heard nothing but great things about going, about leaving inspired and connecting with people world wide.  So leading up to application deadlines this year, I made a decision.  It was about time for some change and for a new experience anyway, so last spring I decided to submit a proposal for a research poster.

Pulling it off at the last minute (which I do not recommend at all), late spring it was accepted!  Thus began my journey to this years GHC.

Things have been a whirlwind of busy leading up to finally taking off for the trip, but luckily I was traveling together with a great group of girls from school.   What was meant to have been only 5+ hours of flight time, turned into a 14 hour trip due to flight delays from home to Phoenix.

The day started with us at the airport all excited and we ran into some of the Shopify Ladies while waiting at the gates.  You can see my research poster in the photo.  It is all prepared for travel with us. 😉

After an hour and half flight delay, we made it to our layover in Chicago.  Initially we had a bit of time to explore the airport.

Later to find out departure had been delayed twice, to depart 2.5 hours after originally planned. But that’s okay, while waiting we made some new friends and there were a number of other GHC attendees on our flight too! 🙂  (And there’s my poster again- I guess it’s representing me in the photo 😛 )

After a bit of a rough flight and a long journey, we finally made it!  Hello Phoenix!  Tired as we were, we still were all excited to be heading to the Phoenix Convention Centre for GHC14

14+ Hours later, we made it!

And there you have it!  Off to bed we went, as it was bright and early for us the next morning.

More to come soon about being at GHC14!  Also will be writing about specific sessions during GHC as a community blogger.

Ciao for now!
